Have you found your desired model but are unsure if it’s the perfect fit for you and your Icelandic horse? We’re happy to send you one of our saddles for a non-binding trial!*

You’ll have the opportunity to test the saddle for up to 10 days. You will receive a brand-new saddle, which you can keep if you are satisfied with it! For this service, we charge a fee of €200 per saddle, which will be credited towards the purchase of the saddle. Of course, you can also keep a trial saddle as part of an on-site saddle tour appointment.

The 10-day trial period begins upon receiving the saddle. Naturally, we hope you are happy with the saddle. If so, please let us know, and we will send you the saddle pass along with the purchase receipt. If not, please return the saddle within 3 days after the trial period ends. Should the saddle not be returned on time, we reserve the right to charge for further use.

We are happy to offer detailed advice on our trial saddles. Just give us a call at +49 (0)5034-78 63 00 5, send us an email at sattelservice@topreiter.de, or use our contact form.

*Please note that we cannot offer the 'Spirit' model as a trial saddle. Also, our trial saddle service is only available to customers within Germany.

Topreiter puts an end to saddle confusion because the saddle is the most important piece of equipment and must be perfectly fitted to each horse! We are happy to check your saddle and provide expert advice to help you find the perfect saddle for you and your Icelandic horse.

With over 20 years of experience in equestrian retail, numerous training sessions and seminars such as "Functional Anatomy in Theory and Practice" by Dr. med. vet. Gert Heuschmann, as well as the certification as a saddle fitter according to the medical saddle theory of the International Society for Integrative Veterinary Medicine (by Dr. Stodulka), Holger Rochow is now travelling throughout Germany with our TOP REITER saddle van, offering you excellent saddle service on-site.

We travel across Germany with our saddle van and are happy to visit your stable! As part of our saddle service, saddles can be checked directly on the horse for size, condition, and any necessary repairs.

For checking your saddle during an on-site saddle tour, we charge €125. This includes both the inspection and travel costs.

Feel free to send us an email at sattelservice@topreiter.de or use our contact form to find out about upcoming saddle tours and to reserve an available appointment.

You can also send us your saddle for inspection. Please include our accompanying repair form with your saddle.

Please clean your saddle before sending it to us, as we unfortunately cannot accept dirty saddles for inspection or repair.

We often receive questions about our saddles, so we want to provide you with some answers to the most frequently asked questions to help you quickly.

However, please don’t hesitate to contact us via the contact form or by phone. We are more than happy to provide personal advice, especially since saddle-related queries are often very individual.

Can the gullet width of my saddle be adjusted?

Yes! Thanks to our SoftSwing saddle tree, the gullet width of your saddle can be flexibly adjusted multiple times. Our standard gullet widths are 34 (medium - standard delivery), 32 (narrow), or 36 (wide). However, we can also tailor the saddle to your individual needs.

How can I measure the gullet width of my saddle?

Unfortunately, this is not possible as it is measured with a special measuring tool. You cannot simply take a measurement at a specific point. Feel free to send your saddle to us; we charge nothing for this service, but you would need to cover the return shipping.

Can any saddler adjust the gullet width?

In principle, yes. Any saddler with a suitable saddle press can adjust the gullet width of our saddles cold.

Can I send my saddle to have the gullet width adjusted?

Absolutely! You can send your saddle to us, and we will adjust the gullet width according to your instructions. The saddle is usually with us for just 1-2 days. The adjustment costs €25 plus return shipping.

Does my saddle have a wool or latex panel?

Professionals can often feel or see this directly, as the panel behaves differently depending on the material. However, there is a simple trick you can use to determine whether it’s a latex or wool panel. Our saddles with wool panels have a continuous horizontal seam on the side, while latex panels are completely smooth with no seam. Not sure? Feel free to send us an email with a side photo of your saddle at sattelservice@topreiter.de.

What information is stored with the saddle's serial number?

The answer is quite straightforward: none. The serial number serves merely as proof of ownership for you. This means that together with the invoice or saddle pass, the serial number can help you prove that it is your saddle. This is particularly useful in cases of theft or if you want to buy a used saddle. Always ensure you receive the saddle pass.

How can I retrieve the serial number of my saddle?

In principle, any veterinarian can read it for you. The chip is usually located in the left flap of the saddle. However, you are also welcome to send your saddle to us. This service is free of charge; we only charge for return shipping.

Do you sell used saddles?

Not really. We do have used saddles, but these are our trial saddles that have been used once or twice on a horse and show some girthing marks. They are only slightly cheaper than a brand-new saddle. We do not offer used saddles in the traditional sense.

Which saddle is the best?

A saddle is the most important link between horse and rider and should always be selected and fitted as individually as both the horse and rider are. Many factors come into play, meaning there is no such thing as "the best" saddle. It is essential to see what fits best. We would be happy to advise you during a saddle service appointment. This way, we can take the time to get to know your horse and you, and together look for the perfect saddle. You can test different saddles to find out which one fits best, and we can also review an existing saddle with you to see how we can optimally adjust it to your needs. Sometimes, it is even easier than expected. So, feel free to arrange a saddle service appointment with us.

What is the seat size of my saddle?

You can easily measure the seat size of your saddle. Simply measure diagonally from one of the saddle nails at the front to the centre of the cantle. You can then convert the measurement in cm to inches easily. For example: 43.5 cm x 2.56 = 17”. Of course, it is not always possible to measure this 100% accurately, so you will usually arrive at an approximate value for the actual inch size. That’s not a problem. The seat size will always be the nearest number. For example, if you come to 17.3” or 16.8”, your saddle will still have a 17” seat size.

Can I get girth straps in special lengths for my saddle?

Of course, that’s no problem. You can simply order the standard girth strap for the Change system from our shop in the "Saddle Accessories" section and specify the desired special length in the comments at the end of your order. We will then manufacture the girth straps exactly according to your specifications.

How long will it take to repair my saddle?

It would be best to have a quick chat to discuss this. Please feel free to give us a call. Depending on how busy our saddle workshop is and what you want to change, this can vary. In general, we always strive to adjust your saddle as well and as quickly as possible so that you don’t have to wait long and can get back to riding right away.

If you think something is missing from this list, please feel free to email us at sattelservice@topreiter.de. Thank you!
